Level 3 Game (and Outcome) Development

This post contains the 2021 Game Development project overiew.

From this section you will find an overview of all of the learning activities, tasks and skill builders that are required for this project as well as the assessment materials.

What will I make?

The main outcome will be a game developed using Unity or another digital outcome that is negotiated with your teacher.

The Game

Your game (or other digital outcome) will contain:

  • programmed code
  • audio
  • graphics (3D and or 2D images)
  • An appropriate art style (e.g. textures for 3D models, sprite sheets)
  • other appropriate content

The above items are only examples and the list does not show all possible content or required content.

Other materials

You will also produce additional support materials for this to run a booth at the digital technology event during the start of Term 4 2021.

These support materials will consist of:

  • game
  • logo
  • promotional presentation
  • promotional video (15-30 seconds)
  • 2 A3 boards / posters promoting the game / development

How will this project work?

You will be working towards producing your game / digital outcome throughout the year.

Some assessment will be ongoing throughout the year such as your project management, and building and programming your game / digital outcome.

Other parts of the assessment will be completed as you finish the tasks such as conducting the inquiry and writing the proposal for your game / digital outcome.

The design will also be finished before you start to make the game / digital outcome.

You will be expected to continuously test, evaluate and improve your work and manage the project.

You will be set key milestone dates and deadlines that you must meet. Examples of these will be completing research, producing a proposal based on your inquiry research, producing your design, repeatedly developing components of your game / digital outcome such as a playable level, delivering the final game and then running a promotion booth at the digital technology showcase event.

Activities

  1. Inquiry – Investigation and Proposal (6cr 3.1 critical inquiry standard)
  2. Project Management – Setup (first stages of 3.8 processing standard)
  3. Unity (or other) – Skill building (no credits but preparation for 3.4 and 3.7)
  4. Design – Develop a User Experience (UX) design (3cr 3.2 UX design)
