Here you’ll find some practice questions for the AS92006 exam. This should be able to be completed within an hour.
To pass this exam, you must be able to recognise, Explain, and evaluate how interfaces treat the user. Here are the core building blocks
Section A: Foundations (Achieved Level)
Question 1: Define the concept of “Match between the System and the real world.” Provide one common desktop or mobile icon that demonstrates this concept and Describe what it represents to the user.
Question 2: Explain the direct difference between Internal Consistency and External Consistency in interface Design.
Section B: Application & Analysis (Merit Level)
Scenario: A school is developing a mobile application called “NCEA Tracker” to help Year 11 students log their internal credits. The initial home dashboard shows a cluttered list of every single achievement standard available across all subjects simultaneously, with no option to hide completed work. Buttons are scattered across different corners depending on the page.
Question 3: Identify at least two Usability heuristics or principles that have been violated in the “NCEA Tracker” app scenario above. For each, Explain in detail how it hurts the user’s ability to efficiently navigate the app.
Question 4: The school wants to make sure the app reflects Manaakitanga for their community. Discuss two practical features the app developers can include to meet this principle.
Section C: Comparative Evaluation & Improvements (Excellence Level)
Scenario: Imagine evaluating two local e-commerce stores: Website A and Website B.
• Website A disables its “Create Account” button completely until the user enters a valid email Address and meets a visible list of password requirements. If a user tries to remove an item from their cart, a gentle modal pops up asking to confirm.
• Website B lets users click “Submit” on blank forms, only showing red error screens after the page reloads. If a user accidentally taps the “X” button next to a cart item, it disappears instantly with no way to bring it back.
Question 5: Compare the Usability of Website A and Website B. Evaluate which website is more effective at enabling users to complete their purchase by explicitly analyzing how they apply at least three Usability principles.
Question 6: Based on your Evaluation, recommend two specific Design improvements for Website B. Explain exactly how these changes fix its Usability issues and prevent customer frustration.
